Infinity Basketball Centre is one of the university projects that I worked on in a team of two in the final year of my study. The idea came from my work experience when I worked in a basketball club as a receptionist, I received many phone calls every day asking Hi, are there any courts available during this time? how much per hour? etc. the main feature is online booking and Training Programs.

My Design Process

Understand
The Problem
Customers and receptionists always misunderstand each other when they talk on the phone during the booking process, such as receptionists put different bookings at the same time on the same courts, customers come at the wrong time for their booking or wrong locations.
-
How might we offer a more efficient and accurate way than phone call booking for customers to book their court/s?
-
How might we offer a way to promote the club events?
Solutions
-
Design a website with an online booking system.
-
A page to update customers on what events are running e.g. basketball camps, and tournaments.
-
Membership page to show features for different plans
-
Contact us has a FAQ section that answers customers' general questions
Survey
My research started with understanding users’ needs and attitudes. I focused on what users want, specifically regarding the preferred way to book a basketball court. I quickly realised that an online booking system was a very important feature for users.
User Journey
Based on user research I identified two personas with different needs. I created user journeys to help me empathise with potential users.
User Persona & Journey

User flows
I took a step back and concentrated on user flows in order to make my design more user-centred and, therefore, more successful from the users’ point of view.

Prototype
After card sorting, I started sketching the core features and designing mid-fidelity wireframes. The wireframes will be tested by users to identify pain points and optimise the design.

Usability Test
I conducted Usability Test on Usabilityhub to assess the learnability of new users interacting with the website for the first time. I observed and measured if users understand the booking system and how to complete functions such as logging in, and making bookings.
Reflection
Challenges&take aways
For this project, I spent 1 month finishing the design process. During this design process, I also faced some challenges, I try to imitate but also want to add my own design to this project, so sometimes take too long to make the decision for the final design. Furthermore, the user interface design was not good enough, I'm still learning and improving my UI skills, so the final design looks a bit simple and amateur, such as colour matching, font choosing, section space etc.
What I take away from this project are, first of all how to handle pressure in a limited time frame,(1 month is a bit rush for me), and there were other assignments that need to be due. secondly, how to explain my design to my partner who is the developer, and try to keep design quality and make the development process as easy as possible for the developer.
